FRN-465 French Cinema Visual and Performing Arts (VP) and Writing/Research Intensive (WR) Prerequisite: any first-year writing seminar and a course in French numbered 300 or greater The course is a survey of French and Francophone cinema from the 1920s era of silent film to the present day. Students will explore the historical context of each era, and become familiar with the principal film genres, directors, and actors. Work for the course is designed to train students in higher-level analytical writing in the service of the appreciation and interpretation of film as an art form. 4 credits.
