Biology offers majors leading to both the Bachelor of Science (B.S.) and the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree. The Bachelor of Science is recommended for students planning to enter graduate or professional school in the life and health sciences. The Bachelor of Arts provides greater flexibility for students pursuing broader or more interdisciplinary objectives.
Majors whose career preparations require successful completion of science or mathematics courses outside of biology may, with approval of the chair, substitute one course from those areas for certain biology courses, while two 2-credit biology May Experience courses numbered 200 or higher can be used to fulfill one of the elective course requirements for either the B.A. or B.S. degrees.
