All students seeking the chemistry major are urged to begin the chemistry course sequence immediately in the first term of freshman year. They should also schedule required mathematics and physics courses as early as possible.

Participation in the annual summer undergraduate research program is accepted in lieu of CHM-502.

Teaching Chemistry in Secondary Schools

Students seeking a career in secondary school teaching must complete a major in the field to obtain a teacher certificate. They may take advantage of the teacher certification program at the undergraduate level or Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) graduate program. Please consult with the Education Department.
