To fulfill major requirements, students must have at least a 2.00 grade point average for all English courses used to satisfy the major requirements.
|
A major consists of at least nine courses and must include two foundation courses:
four credits of writing instruction:
one course focused on Early Traditions:
one course exploring Cultural and Global Studies:
one course using Theory and Practice:
and, at least twelve more credits in any ENG course except:
one credit of vocational and professional preparation over the final four semesters:
Students planning to teach English in secondary schools must complete a major in the field to obtain a teacher certificate.
These students must also successfully complete:
Teacher Certification
Students interested in teaching English in secondary schools may take advantage of our teacher certification program at the undergraduate level or pursue certification through Furman’s Master of Arts in Teaching. Consult with the Education Department (https://www.furman.edu/academics/education) to learn about the programs of teacher education.
