Ancient Greek and Roman Studies Minor


Required Courses (20 credits):


Select at least one course (4 credits) in CLS at the 300 level from the following:


Select at least 4 courses (16 credits) in three unique disciplines, with at least 12 credits above the 100 level from the following:

High-Impact experience


By their Senior year, students must complete a Furman Engaged presentation on a topic related to Ancient Greek and Roman Studies. The presentation can engage with a topic covered in one of the courses counting toward the minor or in another engaged experience, such as Study Away, Internships, Summer Research, or Individual Study. Students are encouraged, but not required, to use the CLS-300 course for the presentation.

Notes:


  • P/NP courses are admitted up to 4 credits to count towards the Minor.
  • Language courses (GRK 201 LTN 201  and above) are encouraged but not required to fulfil the AGRS Minor.

Discretional approval of other courses and experiences


Students can petition with the AGRS Oversight Committee to obtain approval of other courses and experiences toward the AGRS requirements, on a case-by-case basis.

Activities that may be approved include the following:

  • Travel Study
  • Individual Study
  • May Experiences, Internships, Research Fellowships
  • First Year Writing (FYW) programs

Other courses that deal significantly with content close to the AGRS themes, such as courses in Archaeology, Anthropology, Medieval and Early Modern History may be considered for discretional approval.
