ART-135 Understanding Art: Connecting Objects & Histories

GER: VP (Visual and Performing Arts)
How do we understand art? In this art history course, students learn to look critically at images, objects, and architecture from across the globe. Students will practice the foundational skills of visual literacy, including how to describe and interpret artworks in relation to their social, cultural, and historical contexts. By studying contemporary and historical artworks, and connecting them through themes, materiality, and networks of exchange, students will explore how objects make meaning for viewers, both in the past and present.  4 credits.
