Communication Studies, B.A.

To graduate with a major in Communication Studies, students are required to successfully complete a minimum of nine courses (36 credits).

All majors must successfully complete:

COM-101 Public Speaking
COM-121 Digital Communication
COM-201 Introduction to Rhetoric
COM-221 Introduction to Mass Communication
at least three additional Communication Studies courses numbered between 300 and 499, and
two more Communication Studies courses.

Additional Information:

ENG-212 may also be completed to help fulfill the “two more Communication Studies” major requirement.

Only one course, four credits, involving individualized instruction (independent study, research, or internships numbered between 501 and 509) may contribute to major requirements, and no more than two courses, eight credits, completed away from Furman may contribute to major requirements.

Additionally, Communication Studies majors must have at least a 2.00 grade point average in all courses that satisfy major requirements.
