REL-319 Paul’s Life and Thought GER: TA (Critical, Analytical Interpretation of Texts) Introduction to the writings and social world of Pauline Christianity. Topics include: Paul among Jews and Gentiles, Christianity’s emergence from Judaism, concepts such as “faith” and “law,” and Pauline responses to issues such as slavery and empire. Includes an examination of canonical Pauline texts, later appropriations of Paul’s authority, and central theological Pauline tenets. 4 credits.
