FYW-1314 Portraiture at Furman GER: FYW (First Year Writing Seminar) This course will analyze portraits-likenesses of specific individuals-in Furman University’s collection. Students will explore sculptures and paintings accessible on the grounds and in buildings, as well as smaller works in the Special Collections division of the James B. Duke Library. We will consider the identity of the individuals portrayed in terms of gender, race, and social status, how they relate to the institution, and how they fit within an art historical framework. 4 credits.
