FYW-1318 Grassroots Movements GER: FYW (First Year Writing Seminar) This First-Year Writing Seminar will analyze the different methods of communication and rhetorical strategies that grassroots organizations and social groups employ to organize a collective public in working toward a common goal. Particular emphasis will be placed on identifying and interpreting the choices in rhetorical situation and genre, modality, as well as verbal and visual content that these organizations utilize. Students will practice incorporating the writing conventions and strategies they learn about this semester in a final project that asks them to create their own digital platform and handbook for an invented grassroots movement on a social issue about which they care deeply. 4 credits.
