To fulfill major requirements, students must successfully complete ten or more biology courses, each of which must be at least three credits, and include:
at least one course from two of the following three groups:

Students whos career preparations require successful completion of science and mathematics courses outside of biology may substitute one course from those areas for certain biology courses with the approval of the department chair. Moreover, 2 two-credit biology courses numbered 200 or greater completed during May Experience can be combined to fulfill one of the elective course requirements for either the B.A. or B.S. degree.
Students planning to teach biology in secondary schools must complete a major in the field to obtain licensure. These students must also successfully complete:

Teaching licensure eligibility
The teaching internship required for licensure will be completed on a post-baccalaureate, graduate credit basis, with the student becoming eligible for a teaching license at the end of fall term following graduation. Consult with Education for specific requirements for admission to the licensure program and other pertinent information.
