MLL-360 Latin America through Film


GER: VP (Visual and Performing Arts) and WC (World Cultures)
The course is a survey of Latin American contemporary cinema from 1970 to the present day. Students will become familiar with the most prominent film genres, directors and actors in Latin America; major historical periods; political conflicts/actors; key sociocultural issues through the gaze of cinema; and the history of colonialist and imperial inequities and injustices, as it pertains to the formation of the Latin American identity in contemporary times and the relation it has to the United States and Europe. 4 credits.
