MXP-282 Writing for Broadcast This course explores the techniques of writing for broadcast. We enlist methods of writing for the ear, condensing information down to broadcast-worthy chunks of information while still keeping the story arc and necessary facts to a story while adhering to sound journalistic practices. We’ll explore the four C’s when it comes to writing for Broadcast; correctness, clarity, conciseness, and color. Students will learn to take print and digital stories and press releases and rewrite them for broadcast. As writing for broadcast is writing for the ear, students will also practice anchoring their scripts in the studio in order to hear and then critique and reflect on what they have written. Provided stations allow visitors, the class will culminate with trips to TV stations to tour and watch the taping of a newscast. May Experience ONLY. 2 credits.
