REL-284 Black Religious Thought


GER: IEJ (Identities, Equity, and Justice) and WR (Writing/Research Intensive)
This course explores the development of Black religious thought and focuses on several pivotal/significant thinkers and scholars. This course will look at the writings of such historical figures like Richard Allen, Jarena Lee, Ida B. Wells-Barnett, Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, James Baldwin, and Black Christian theologians and social ethicists like James Cone, Katie Cannon, and Kelly Brown Douglass. The course will also explore the thought of Black feminists like Angela Davis, Barbara Smith, and bell hooks.  4 credits
