MXP-254 The Sociology of Beyoncé: Music and Social Change This course examines how theories of gender and race are represented in the songs and artistry of Beyoncé Knowles-Carter’s discography. Major topics examined include social inequality, media representations of race and racism, feminist politics, southern-pop authenticity and the celebrification of socio-political movements. Participants will engage in sociological song writing, drawing upon themes covered in the course. May Experience ONLY. 2 credits.
