MXP-218 Americans in Paris: From Jefferson to Baker This travel study May X proposes a reflective, socio-cultural and historical look at the impact of Paris and France on the lives of Americans who visited there from the 18th century to the 21st century. Subjects may include: Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin, the Dough Boys, Gertrude Stein, Bessie Coleman, D-day vets, Josephine Baker, Jaqueline Bouvier (Kennedy), Angela Davis, James Baldwin, and Tai Nahisi Coates, among others. Along the way students will also engage with media depictions of Paris for American audiences and will reflect on what it means to be an American (or any other nationality) in Paris. This is a travel study course and requires permission to register. Please contact the Rinker Center for Study Away and International Education. May Experience ONLY. 2 credits.
