MXP-201 Deference and Democracy in Thailand

This course explores the dynamics between deference and democratic citizenship in Thailand. Through a combination of readings, lectures, guest speakers, and field experiences and observation, students will gain insight on how deference and democratic values have shaped political action, international trade, tourism, the treatment of migrants and exiles, women and minority rights, and other social justice efforts. Engaged learning experiences include guided tours of key sites of democracy and protests, palaces and temples, and NGOs and advocacy groups.  This is a travel study course and requires permission to register. Please contact the Rinker Center for Study Away and International Education. May Experience ONLY. 2 credits.
