POL-290 Civil Discourse This course will explore the meaning and implications of civility in American politics. Specific focus will be on the legal and normative foundations of a democratic republic when it comes to political discourse. Historical and contemporary examples of civil (and uncivil) engagement will be critically considered. Tools for engaging in effective discussion of contentious issues will be evaluated. Opportunities for practicing the art of civil discourse will be provided. 2 credits
