REL-376 Christian Theology and Disability Considers traditional theological interpretations of disability that–because they developed through an able-bodied interpretive lens–generally regarded disability as a product of sin or distortion of natural order that must be sacrificially endured or miraculously cured. Includes discussion of problematic consequences of this early theology alongside contemporaneous, often ignored, helpful alternative insights about embodied difference. Final part of course looks at new, empowering theologies of disability inspired by secular Disability Studies and Nancy Eiesland’s groundbreaking book, The Disabled God. 2 credits.
